ONGC to expand its exploratory drilling at South Assam Shelf Block
in Kalyanpur & Borholla Areas in Jorhat district of Assam with an investment of Rs. 464.4 million. The Kalyanpur and Borholla hydrocarbon prospective areas extend across the Titabar petroleum exploration license and Borholla mining lease. It is proposed to undertake exploratory drilling for oil & Gas in three locations in PEL-3 (Titabar) viz. MRAG, BRAH & KPAC. In the Borholla ML-1 area, exploratory drilling will be carried at BRDM location. The area of the Borholla ML is 32.12 km2 and already 43 wells have been drilled of which 23 are producing wells for oil and gas. Now it is proposed to undertake exploratory and drilling activity in the BRDM location. The Titabar PEL covers an area of 101 km2. Already 6 wells have been drilled in the TItabar PEL and it is proposed to drill 3 wells in this area thus it is proposed to carry out exploratory drilling of four wells in Borholla and Kalyanpur areas. About 1.8 ha of area will be required per drill site
in Khoraghat area in Golaghat district of Assam with an investment of Rs. 90.3 million. The Khoraghat hydrocarbon prospective area covers an area of 104 km2 The PEL comprises of two parts, a northern and a southern part. So far, two wells have been drilled and no wells have been found to be oil and gas bearing. It is proposed to drill a new well KHAR at a depth of 2100 m which is located in the Nambar forest area, so water based drilling mud will be used to the maximum possible extent. Synthetic based mud may be required due to the complexities associated with the geological formations and hole stability problems.
in Babejia, Hazarigaon & Ganakarai Areas in Golaghat district of Assam with an investment of Rs. 27.5 million. The PEL is divided in two parts of which Northern part covers an area of 123 km2 and southern part covers 111 km2. So far five wells have been drilled in this PEL block and none of the wells have been found to be oil and gas bearing. It plans to proposed to undertake exploratory drilling of three wells at locations BJAA at a depth of 2500 m, HZAA at a depth of 1500 m and GNAB at a depth of 2150 m. The drilling locations is at a distance from the Dayang Reserve Forest and River Dayang is 2.5 km. Land for BJAA location has already been acquired and land acquision is in progress for HJAA & GNAB. The project will use water based drilling mud.
in Khoraghat & Nambar Areas in Golaghat district of Assam with an investment of Rs. 550 million. All the above three ML areas fall in Golaghat district in Assam. The area of Khoraghat ML, Khoraghat Extn. ML & Nambar ML is 3 km2, 83 km2 & 26 km2 respectively. So far 40 wells have been drilled within these mining leases and 22 wells are producing hydrocarbons. The oil and gas reservoirs occur at average depth of 2500 m. below the surface. It is proposed to drill five wells of which one well viz. KHDC at a depth of 2450 m in Khoraghat Ext., one well KHAU at a depth of 3050 m in Khoraghat and three wells viz. KHAT at a depth of 1850 m, NRAD at a depth of 2570 m and KHAS at a depth of 3170 m in Nambar MILLION.
