RINL to develop captive iron ore mine in Rajasthan

Rashtirya Ispat Nigam Ltd is starting up initial works on its first captive iron ore mine in Rajasthan. The company has received a LOI from the state government. The iron ore mine has a reserve potential of 250 million tonnes and is spread over 900 hectares. The company has also bid for 26 mines across the country. RINL is one of the larger producer in the country so far without a captive iron ore mine. Tata Steel and SAIL has captive iron ore mines. Currently, the company sources iron ore from NMDC

Blanket ban on iron ore exports from Karnataka

The state government of Karnataka has recently announced a ban on export of iron ore mines to control the flourishing illegal iron ore mining. However, it has impacted larger players like Baldota mines, this is a setback. However, experts feel that banning of exports is more of a political decision than a business decision. It does not make sense, as steel plant take 5 years to build, while there are 240 million tonnes of iron ore mine of which only one-third is consumed. Balance has to be stored which does not make sense. Further, there are over a million labours will be affected if mines get closed

Exploration for iron ore to be carried out at Zomblimolacho Soddo Iron Ore Mine


Exploration of iron ore is to be carried out in Zomblimolacho Soddo Iron Ore Mine project located at villages Muguli and Costi in Sanguem taluk in South Goa district of Goa. The proposed rated capacity of the mine will be 0.25 mtpa with an estimated iron ore reserves of 3.35 mtpa. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 3000 million.

NMDC to expand Donimalai Iron Ore project

National Mineral Development Corp (NMDC) to expand Donimalai Iron Ore project in Sandur Taluk in Bellary district of Karnataka. The project involves expanding Iron Ore mining from 4.0 MTPA to 7.0 MTPA and setting up of 1.8 MTPA BHJ/BHQ Beneficiation Plant and 1.2 MTPA Pellet Plant / Slime Beneficiation Plant. Mineable reserves are estimated at 22.4 mt and the life of the mine at this proposed production rate will be 5 years. The concentrate produced from slime beneficiation plant will be totally used in Pelletisation Plant for production of blast furnace grade pellets. The total project cost is estimated at Rs.6526 million.

Sociedade Timblo Irmaos Limitada is to carry out mining at Fanascatem Iron Ore Mine


Sociedade Timblo Irmaos Limitada is to carry out mining operations at Fanascatem Iron ore project located at villages Codli, Bandoli and Cormonem in Sangem taluk in South Goa district. The proposed rated capacity of the mine is at 0.30 mtpa from a mineable reserves of 3.315 mt. The project is estimated cost is at Rs.11 million
